Music allows students to express themselves in a more creative way and can lead to improved ability across the curriculum.
In music, the pupils learn a wide variety of topics, this includes, learning about the important and popular composers, how the music is put together using the elements of music, for example, dynamics, tempo, timbre and texture. The pupils can identify key terms and tall about a piece of music using musical vocabulary.
Alongside this, they learn how to play simple rhythms on the drums and melodies with accompaniment on the keyboards. To be able to achieve this, they learn about the different time values of notes and the position of the notes on the keyboard.
GCSE music is more involved and the pupils will compose 2 pieces of music which will be added to their overall score. They can perform a duet and a solo piece which is also used for their final score.
