Westlands Academy at Thornaby is situated on the site of a World War Two airfield and is part of an aerodrome memorial walk. There has been a school on this site since 1977.
Westlands Academy is an 11-16 SEMHD school and is part of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust. Every young person who is on roll at our Academy has experienced difficulties at sometime in their lives and has an Education, Health Care Plan (EHCP). We give everyone who joins our school a fresh start by helping the young person to overcome their individual barriers to learning and give them the opportunity to be successful.
Fundamental to this process is having a supportive, multi skilled staff group that foster positive caring relationships with our young people. Our Motto is Forward Together and that’s exactly what we do.
